Can you believe this is my first knitting update of the year, already three months in? I’m only coming to this now, because I only now feel like I’ve achieved anything, knit-wise. It was a slow start to the year for me on project progress, but I’m over the hill now, and I’m excited for all of the good things that are to come in the future. Before we think about all of that, though, let’s take a look back at the last few months and what knits I’ve been getting on with…
The biggest achievement, and what has, in fact, inspired the turnaround in my knitting productivity, is finally finishing my improv sweater! I started this toward the end of last year, and I honestly thought it would have been done before my trip to the States on 10th February, but that certainly wasn’t the case. I fell out of love with knitting it part way through, I think because I was sure I didn’t have enough yarn (spoiler alert – I was right!), but I got back into it and managed to finish it last week. I’ll share another post all about it soon!
I’ve also been taking part in the #boxosox knitalong this year. It’s something that’s peaked my interest for a while now, and I really got into sock knitting at the end of last year, thanks to some gorgeous Joanie Unravelled yarn. So far, so good, and I’ve got three pairs on and off my needles this year – one for each month that’s passed. I absolutely love sock knitting, and find that I can get through them pretty quickly. Month on month, I’ve been developing what I hope will be my perfect vanilla sock pattern. As with all of my knits, I like my socks simple, so I’m committed to putting the time it to get it just right.
I’ve just recently started working on a fun collaboration project with the lovely Jane from Fiber to the People. I’ll tell you all about it very soon, but she supplied me with some of the most delicious Woolstok yarn and I’ve been working away on a new pattern with it. I absolutely love what we’re coming up with, and we hope that the pattern will be available in the next couple of months.
That’s all for actual knitting, I think, but I’ve also been working on my next patterns ready for release. I’m rising to the challenge of one of this year’s goals, and I’m diving into garment pattern designing! Honestly, I’m feeling really nervous about the whole sizing thing, but I’m going to recruit some pattern testers to help me out, and hope that I’m along the right lines. I haven’t decided on a release schedule yet, and I think I’ll probably do some Instagram polls to see what you guys prefer before I settle on something. What I do know, though, is that the pattern for this vest is well underway, and I hope you’re as excited about it as I am!
While I have had a few things to write about in this update, it’s not all that much considering this progress spans three months! It’s OK though, I’ve been enjoying my recent knits, and I’m super excited about some knits that I’ve got coming up. If only I could do this all the time!
What about you? What have you been knitting lately? How has your year started? I really want to know, so drop me a comment and we can chat!
